I have a buy 1 breakfast get 1 free coupon from Mimi’s Cafe for joining their e-club on their website. We woke up late on Sunday, and Dr. P was in the mood for brunch. It was the perfect day to use my coupon.
It’s Mongolian hot pot where you put in a random assortments of raw meat, veggies & noodles and let the broth cook the raw ingredients. I know it might sound a little insanitary, but that’s just how we roll. Oh yes, don’t ask why it’s called Little Fat Sheep, direct translation from Chinese, but the sheep part might also have to do with the Mongolian cuisine, since there are sheeps painted all over the walls….
The prosciutto sandwich was delicious and immediately made me a fan of the restaurant. There was the perfect amount of thinly sliced prosciutto without being too salty. The cheese was light and fresh. The sun dried tomato aioli wasn’t overdone. The baguette was decent, and the arugula gave the sandwich a nice, spicy bite. It was just a very well made sandwich full of fresh ingredients.
The soup dumplings at Ding Tai Fung are amazing. The skin is super thin, yet does not break. It holds the hot soup perfectly (look at the picture above!). When you bite into the soup dumpling, a gorgeous chorus of pork-crab soup flavors explodes into your mouth. Finish the experience by chewing on the perfectly thin, stretchy-yet-unbreakable, “Q” skin that has been lovingly hand-rolled multiple times to achieve this texture. Soooo delicious.
Since our first try about five months ago, we’ve been back at least four or five times. We’re starting to become regulars. I think they need to issue us a punch card. We’ve brought friends, family, and of course went for a late-night dinner just the two of us. This time around we brought my parents, brother and sister.
I was craving for Indian food big time for some reason. Flipping through my coupon book, I found a coupon for Haveli Fine Indian Cuisine for $6.99 lunch buffet (original price $8.99/person). We’ve been to Haveli a few times before, and really enjoy their food.
There’s just something about The Boiling Crab that makes you crave for it so bad from time to time. They must add something so additive in that way too good whle sha-bang sauce.

In case some of you don’t know how to eat hot pot. Just add a few ingredients at a time so that everything doesn’t overcook. Usually, I put vegetables in bigger batches for everyone to share and scoop up if they wish. Meats are usually added by the individual, a few slices at a time, and you fish out your own meats so they don’t overcook.
Tuna Pizza, Ume Tarragon Ceviche, Sashimi Carpaccio? You’re reading right, these are not misprints. These are just a few of the fusion dishes head chefs Kengo and Hiro have created for MaiKobe in Old Pasadena.
The lychee cocktail is dangerous. It’s like when Alice first enters the Wonderland, and she is met with a bottle that says DRINK ME. Naively, she drinks it and she shrinks into a tiny thing. So sweet with the lychee syrup, we easily gulp down the sake cocktail. Let’s just say, our impairment shrunk.
I was deciding between Mole chicken and this Pollo A la Chipotle. Our waiter recommended the Chipotle cream sauce chicken, and I was glad I took his suggestion. Pollo A La Chipotle was damn good. The chicken was moist, and the mushroom was juicy. And the chipolte cream sauce, mmmmmmm…….. it was OMG good!
Eating out with friend is always fun, but oftentimes people struggle to try out new restaurant for the fear of bad experience and waste of money.
